Ahonon

In Benin, the mother of twins is deeply venerated. In Fon and Yorùbá traditions, twins are known as Hoho or Ìbejì and are regarded as divine beings, one soul expressed through two bodies. I remember ceremonies held by one of my uncles. The mask I used for Ahonon comes from the Myene people of Gabon. I was born in Gabon to Beninese parents, and I feel fortunate to carry cultural influences from both countries.
